The final round of "Spring 2024" was held on June 19, 2024 in the Szamárhát Visitor Center in Kesznyéten, in which the teams with the most points from the first etap could participate. Thanks to our referee, "Uncle Bandi", i.e. Dr. András Legány, who is already familiar to many from previous years, the final round took place in a playful and cheerful atmosphere, during which 18 teams of two competed against each other.
The 10-task competition, based on predetermined topics, was also enriched by practical parts such as bird call recognition or field plant knowledge, and this year, the traditional folk song singing, which is a special highlight among the tasks of our Judge, could not be left out this year either: the predetermined aspects according to them, the teams also presented one of the folk songs they had collected in a live performance. Folk songs and music are also an important part of our relationship with the environment and our culture, which is why we believe that this - perhaps a little unusual at first hearing - task has a place in the environmental knowledge contest that revives the old rural lifestyle and farming traditions.
The eight most successful teams in the Final were invited to the competition's summer prize camp, and the other teams were able to win valuable book prizes. In addition, the finalists were presented with a unique badge, a certificate, small gifts made of natural materials, with logos, an informative leporello, and thanks to the donation of the Nature Diver Foundation, a copy of the Nature Diver magazine.
This time, the "Tavaszlesen" challenge cup took an unusual route, as this year - due to their brilliant competition similar to last year - it was again won for their school by the team of Mária Pap Zsuzsanna (8th grade) and Sára Patai (8th grade), so the cup returned to Szent István Catholic Primary School in Mezőkövesd for another year. (We welcome Erika Paczáné Horváth as their preparatory teacher this year.)

Since 2007, our Public Foundation has regularly organized the "Springwatch" ("Tavaszlesen") environmental knowledge quiz series. Within the framework of the competition, which is announced every year, we want to encourage the children living in the region to get to know the natural wealth and beauty of the region, the farming traditions of the region along the Tisza, the special world of shepherding, the breeds of domestic animals linked to the history of Hungarians, to discover the value in all of this, and the experienced recognize the importance of protecting our environment based on their experiences. By organizing the competition, we hope that we can also provide teachers with an alternative tool to motivate their students and introduce them to the exciting world of our environmental culture and natural values.
Thank you for your participation, and we wish both the teams and their training teachers a pleasant summer rich in "natural" experiences!
